KLIA2 TO START OPS ON MAY 2, 2014, ASSURES TRANSPORT MINSTER

SEPANG, July 5 (Bernama) -- Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has given an assurance the opening of the low-cost carrier airport, klia2, will not be postponed again and will start operation on May 2, 2014.

He said a special committee, which will be headed by Deputy Transport Minister, Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi, to keep close tabs on the project to prevent any more delays.

"The committee will help Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd (MAHB) and the contractors resolve problems or overcome restraints regarding the project," he said.

Hishammuddin said this at a media briefing after visting the airport site here today.

He said the committee will also be tasked to explain to the public on the causes of the delays and the additional cost incured.

"The committee will report to me the progress of the project every week to enable me to monitor it closely.

"I hope the move will give the rakyat the confidence that the government is serious to ensure this mega project is realised to benefit them," he said.

Earlier, Hishammuddin was briefed by MAHB officials and those involved in the project regarding the delay and the problems they faced.

"MAHB and the contractors have given me the commitments to complete the project according to schedule.

"In this respect, I do not want to point the finger at anybody. I want the project to be completed to benefit the travellers and help the country's tourism sector," he said. -- BERNAMA
