KAZAN, (Russia) July 5 (Bernama) -- National diver Jasmine Lai Pui Yee obviously was no match against the the women divers from China and Russia when she lost in the preliminary rounds of the 1-metre springboard event at the 27th World University Sports (Universiade 2013), here today. Her lack of experience at the international level was clearly the main factor for the 18-year-old to only collect 214.30 points and placed on the 18th spot out of 25 divers.

Chinese diver Wang Liting and the host country's Phillippova Svetlana dominated the two top slots respectively to qualify for the final.

"This is the biggest championship that I have competed in. I'm rather disappointed that I failed to pass the preliminary round but I'm still satisfied with my performance today.

"Coach Zhang Yukun advised me learn much more and train. I concede that I still have a lot of weaknesses that need to be improved," she told reporters after the event.

Jasmine is scheduled to participate in three more events namely the 3-metre spring board individual and will partner Kam Ling Kar for the 3-metre synchronised and 10-metre synchronised events.
