MALAYSIAN CAUGHT TRYING TO SMUGGLE CONTRABAND CIGARETTES INTO SINGAPORE

SINGAPORE, July 5 (Bernama) -- Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers detained a Malaysian and seized 100 cartons of contraband cigarettes from his Malaysian-registered sports car early today.

In a statement, the ICA said the 26-year-old suspect was stopped for checks upon arrival at the Woodlands Checkpoint about 5.30am.

Upon checking, ICA officers seized the contraband cigarettes hidden in the rear speaker compartment of the car.

The suspect and the contraband cigarettes were handed over to the Singapore Customs for further investigations.
