WINDHOEK, 05 JUN (NAMPA) The organisers of the 2014 Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) handed over awards and cash prizes amounting to N.dollars 1.1 million to over 17 category winners of the NAMAs on Thursday.
The NAMAs took place in Swakopmund on 07 and 08 May 2014.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony in Windhoek on Thursday, NAMAs executive committee chairperson Tim Ekandjo from Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) said the main goal of the awards was to build one of the most competitive brands in Africa, and not only in Namibia.
Board member of the National Arts Council of Namibia (NACN), Johanna Kambala cautioned the artists not to be reckless with their cash prizes and to guard against their reputations as this can damage their reputation and the reputation of the music industry.
The artists all received N.dollars 15 000 and a new cell phone.
The Lifetime Achievement Award went to the composer of the Namibian national anthem Axali Doeseb for the mark he made in the contemporary Namibian music industry, while local artists Gazza (Lazarus Shiimi) and Erna Chimu were named Best Male and Female Artist of the Year respectively.
