KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 (Bernama) -- The ringgit closed slightly lower against the US dollar today on weaker buying interest for the local note as investors turned cautious ahead of the US jobs data for June, a dealer said.

The ringgit rose against the US dollar to 3.1870/1900 from 3.1815/1840 on Thursday.

The dealer said the jobs data, due later today, may provide clues about the possible timing of the US Federal Reserve's reduction of monetary stimulus.

Meanwhile, the local currency was traded mostly higher against other major currencies.

The ringgit was sharply higher against the Singapore dollar at 2.4967/4996 from 2.5012/5035 yesterday and strengthened against the yen to 3.1860/1897 from 3.1904/1936.

The local currency rose against the British pound to 4.7773/7824 from 4.8505/8553 yesterday and gained against the euro to 4.1049/1097 from 4.1350/1386 on Thursday.
