KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 (Bernama) -- Libraries need to be given a new breath of life in order to continue to develop reading culture, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said this in his twitter message today when commenting on the report issued by Bernama yesterday under the heading "Rejuvenate the libraries in order to remain relevant to society'.

A news report quoted the Deputy Director-General of Public Service (Operations) Datuk Ismail Alias as saying that the libraries in the country needed to be rejuvenated so that they would remain relevant in the eyes of the public.

This was in line with the global mainstream phenomenon that demanded a comprehensive and structured transformation, said Ismail.

In another development, the Prime Minister also sent a twitter message giving an assurance that the Barisan Nasional government would continue to liberalise the service sector so that it would remain competitive.

Najib is expected to return to Kuala Lumpur today after concluding a four-day working visit to the United Kingdom.
