OSHAKATI, 01 JUN (NAMPA) – A total of N.dollars 1.1 million was raised during a 2014 Oshakati Totem Expo fundraising gala dinner held here on Saturday night.
The 2014 Totem Expo will take place from 01 to 05 July.
Prominent business personalities from in and around Oshakati were present at the gala dinner that was addressed by Minister of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development Major-General (Rtd) Charles Namoloh as the main speaker.
A joint venture between two Oshakati businessmen, Erastus Shapumba of Chicco Building Suppliers and David Kambwa Sheehama of Kambwa Trading, was declared the main sponsor of this year’s Totem Expo as they jointly contributed more than N.dollars 200 000 towards the event.
The N.dollars 200 000 joint sponsorship is additional to N.dollars 25 000 (by Shapumba) and N.dollars 20 000 (by Sheehama) that the two businessmen contributed individually earlier during the same fundraising event.
The joint venture received a platinum status award for its immense contribution, while the gold status award went to Benz Building Suppliers for its contribution of N.dollars 125 000.
The “poor man’s friend”, Fysal Fresh Produce, as the third runner-up with a contribution of N.dollars 100 000 took home the silver status award.
In his speech, Namoloh commended the Oshakati Town Council for initiating the Totem Expo. The Minister said the expo is about promoting and preserving the cultural/traditional identity, norms and moral values of the people of Namibia.
Namoloh also encouraged the business community, corporate companies and individuals to support the town council so that it can continue hosting the expo successfully.
