KALABAKAN UMNO WANTS PARTY PRESIDENT, DEPUTY PRESIDENT POSTS TO BE UNCONTESTED

TAWAU, July 5 (Bernama) -- The Kalabakan Umno division, which has 191 branches, wants the posts of party president and deputy president not be contested at the coming party election.

Division head Datuk Seri Abdul Ghapur Salleh said the decision was unanimously reached at the division's committee meeting, here, today.

"We hope the other (Umno) divisions will decide the same as they (Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) have shown good leadership," he said after chairing the meeting.

Abdul Ghapur said the decision would be among the resolutions to be tabled at the coming Kalabakan Umno division's annual meeting-cum-election.

He said there was no reason for the party's two top posts to be contested as Najib and Muhyiddin had been leading the party and government well.

Meanwhile, Abdul Ghapur reminded all Umno leaders in the Kalabakan division that its branches have from July 15 until Aug 30 to hold their respective meetings.
