OTJIWARONGO, 26 MAY (NAMPA) – A 26-year-old man died on Saturday after he was allegedly hit by a truck along the B8 main road between Grootfontein and Rundu.
The Namibian Police Force’s (NamPol) Otjozondjupa Regional Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Maureen Mbeha told Nampa on Monday that the deceased has been identified as Ernest Andre Kooper and his relatives have already been informed of the death.
Mbeha said three men, including Kooper, were walking from Grootfontein back to a farm some six kilometres north-east of Grootfontein Saturday evening when the hit-and-run incident allegedly occurred.
“It is suspected that as they approached their farm, a truck passed by them and Kooper was bumped dead by that same truck,” she explained.
The two other men who witnessed the road accident informed Kooper’s relatives at the farm, who then alerted the police.
The police opened a culpable homicide case under CR No. 37/05/2014 at the Grootfontein Police Station that same Saturday evening.
No arrest has yet been made and police investigations continue.
