Henock Ya Kasita

Henock ya Kasita was appointed Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy in May 2003. He was re-appointed to the position when President Hifikepunye Pohamba became President in March 2005. Prior to his appointment as a Deputy Minister, Ya Kasita was Swapo’s Chief Whip in the National Council (NC) for nine years. He has represented Okaku constituency in the Oshana region as a Regional Councillor since 1993.
Ya Kasita crossed into exile in the late 1970s. In the 1980s he was a People’s Liberation Army of Namibia (Plan) combatant before spending four years in Cuba.
Ya Kasita, who has a qualification in legal drafting, has urged lawyers and court officials not to use unnecessarily complicated legal language that confuses both complainants and the accused.
In 2001 he condemned the provision of condoms to prisoners, saying they should instead practice “self-masturbation” (The Namibian, May 10 2001).
Ya Kasita has been a member of the Swapo Central Committee since 1997.
He has been the Chairperson of Namibian chapter of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) since 2000.
