OPUWO, 19 MAY (NAMPA) The organisers of the Opuwo Annual Trade Fair say preparations are well underway for the event set for 26 to 31 May this year.
It will be the third time the event, aimed at marketing the Kunene regional capital, is taking place.
The Local Economic Development and Tourism Officer of the Opuwo Town Council, Victoria Haihambo who is also the head of the organising committee of the trade fair, said all 116 stalls, which were available, have been booked.
She told Nampa here on Monday the entertainment side of the fair is also assured, with eight of Namibias top artists booked for the event.
These are Lady May, Diop Katuuo, T-Bozz & Staika, Mushe, Ongoro Nomundu, Lettie, Ben Mutjangatjike and Frieda Haindaka.
A Miss Opuwo Trade Fair beauty pageant will also take place during the event.
Haihambo said the trade fair is improving every year, adding that this year, besides information sessions, exhibitions and marketing of products, there will be auctions of livestock on the trade fair grounds.
Boxing lovers will also be in for a treat with four boxing clubs from Windhoek expected to bring their finest boxers to exchange blows during the event.
These are Onkugo Promotions of Harry Simon, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol), Namibian Defence Force (NDF), and the Warriors Boxing Promotion Club.
The theme of the trade fair this year is Reduce Poverty and Develop Opportunity.
In 2013, the Opuwo Trade Fair had about 5 000 visitors, a number organisers expect to double this year.
