WINDHOEK, 18 MAY (NAMPA) A female University of Namibia (Unam) student allegedly committed suicide in the Eros residential area of the capital by hanging herself on Thursday morning at around 06h45.
The Namibia Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi told the media here on Sunday the incident occurred in Olof Palme Street.
He said the deceased, 22-year-old Lucia Mwaalwa Ndinelago Kaunamwene, did not leave a suicide note behind, thus the motive for the suicide was not known.
Her next of kin have been informed, and police investigations continue.
In a separate incident, a 33-year-old man also allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in the Havana informal settlement, south of the Havana Primary School.
Kanguatjivi said the incident was reported to the police on Saturday, and it is not clear when Elifas Tuhafeni Shikongo committed the act.
No suicide note was found, and his next of kin have been informed.
Also in Windhoek, NamPol is investigating the sudden death of Steven Meyer, who collapsed and died along Isabel Street in Khomasdal on Saturday afternoon at about 16h00.
According to Kanguatjivi, the deceased was walking away from a shebeen, where he and his girlfriend had been drinking, when he collapsed.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
The Police in the Ohangwena Region also opened inquest dockets into the suicides of two men in the region.
The 40-year-old Fillipus Shindume allegedly shot himself with a shotgun in the head in his bedroom at the Oshimwaku village in that region at about 18h25 on Friday.
No suicide note was left behind and the motive is not known. The deceased was employed as a community security guard at the Oshimwaku Combined School, Kanguatjivi said.
The second man, an Angolan national identified as Joseph Shihepo, allegedly hung himself from a window of a toilet at the Oshikango Police Holding Cells on Wednesday last week.
Kanguatjivi said the 24-year-old deceased was arrested for the rape of a 12-year-old girl at the Onengali village.
His next of kin have been informed.
