NINE PARTICIPANTS READ QURAN ON SIXTH DAY OF TILAWAH

KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 (Bernama) -- Nine more participants tonight read verses from the Quran at the 55th International Tilawah Al-Quran or Quran Reciters Assembly which entered its sixth day.

The nine at the event held at the Merdeka Hall of the Putra World Trade Centre, here, comprised five male readers or qari and four female readers (qariah).

The five qari are Awangku Muhd Adibul Amin Pengiran Marjuki from Brunei, Idris Waruday (Timor Leste), Mohammed Yassine Lokhat (Mauritius), Dasrizal Marah Nainin (Indonesia) and Anuar Hasin (Malaysia).

The four qariah are Natipa Manasiya from Thailand, Mariama Ndong (Gambia), Suhana Mariyam Ageel (Maldives) and Rania Nana AlFakiy Tajaldin (Sudan).

So far, 50 qari and qariah out of 80 from 49 countries have recited verses from the Quran at the assembly themed, "Moderation the Pillar of Ummah Unity".

The champion qari and qariah will each receive a 350gm gold wafer worth RM70,000, RM40,000 in cash, a trophy, souvenir and certificate.
