ONGWEDIVA, 15 MAY (NAMPA) – A 34-year-old man killed his younger brother at the Eengava village in the Ohangwena Region on Sunday following a quarrel over food.
Reports have it that the younger brother came from the village’s cuca shops, and started quarrelling before attacking his older brother with a panga.
The deceased is 28-year-old Reinhold Uhela Kashinda.
Confirming the incident to Nampa on Thursday, Sergeant Kaume Iitumba of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Public Relations Unit for the Ohangwena Region said the two brothers are orphans.
“The older brother, who lived with the deceased and other siblings, is the owner of the homestead which he inherited after their father and mother died some years ago,” said Iitumba.
He explained that the elder brother stabbed the young brother once in the stomach with a traditional knife at about 21h00 on Sunday.
The deceased could only be taken to the Engela District Hospital on Monday morning, as no transport was available at the village the night of the incident.
Iitumba stated that the condition of the deceased was critical and, as such, the Engela District Hospital transferred him to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital where he succumbed to his wound on Tuesday.
A criminal case was opened at the Ohangwena NamPol against the older brother.
