KOTA KINABALU, July 4 (Bernama) -- The Sessions Court here set July 18 and 19 to resume the trial of Riduan Masmud, 40, who is charged with raping an underage girl whom he later married.
Judge Ummu Khatom Abd Samad fixed the date after hearing the testimony of the seventh prosecution witness in a closed-door proceeding today.
The witness was a 12-year-old friend of the victim's and was accorded protection under the Evidence of Child Witness Act 2007 and Evidence Act 1950.
Riduan Masmud, 40, allegedly raped the girl in a parked car at Jalan Inanam at 10am on Feb 18. He faces up to 20 years imprisonment and whipping upon conviction under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
Yesterday, sixth prosecution witness Obstetrical and Gynaecological specialist Dr Munawwirah Ismail of the Women and Children's Hospital in Likas testified that a physical examination of the girl revealed that she was a rape victim.

Dr Munawwirah said during the examination on Feb 19, the victim told her that she had been taken to the Kionsom Waterfall area and raped by the accused.
On May 21, Riduan caused a public uproar when he informed the court that he had married the girl.
Lawyer Loretto J. Padua represented the accused while Datuk Mariati Robert of the Sabah Law Association, Mary Lee of the Sabah Women Action Resource Group and Mary Florence Gomez from Voice of The Children Malaysia held watching briefs for their organisations.
The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutors Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharuddin and Effizah Erni Idris.
