OUTJO, 13 MAY (NAMPA) – A 36-year-old man appeared in the Outjo Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of attempted murder.
Ronny Mouton allegedly stabbed his girlfriend, Fabiola Heibes three times in the back and once in the right eye with a pocket knife in the early hours of Sunday.
It is alleged that the two had a heated quarrel, and a physical fight broke out between them after Mouton entered their house in Outjo’s Etoshapoort residential area at around 00h20.
The cause of the fight is still unknown.
Magistrate Elvis Mwilima on Monday informed Mouton of his legal right to engage a private lawyer of his choice, apply for a State-funded lawyer through the Ministry of Justice’s Legal Aid Directorate, or defend himself in court.
Mouton opted to apply for a State-funded lawyer.
He was not asked to plead.
His case was postponed to 25 June 2014 for further police investigations.
Mouton was denied bail and remanded in police custody.
Meanwhile, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Maureen Mbeha told Nampa in an interview on Tuesday that Heibes was rushed to the Outjo State Hospital shortly after the fight.
“Heibes was however transferred to the Katutura State Hospital in the capital that morning where she is receiving medical treatment for her stab wounds and is in a critical condition,” Mbeha said.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
