KOTA KINABALU, July 4 (Bernama) -- The new date to vacate the Wawasan bus terminal has now been postponed to September 21.

Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir said the decision was made following requests from bus operators to delay the relocation process until after the Hari Raya celebration.

"The City Hall was initially bound to vacate the present Wawasan bus terminal by July 5, to enable construction work on a new bus terminal building to start," he said in a statement here, today.

Madingkir said in respect of the Ramadhan month and the Hari Raya celebration, the City Hall and the state government had agreed with their request and decide to postpone the relocation.

He said the decision was also made in order to not cause any disruption and inconvenience to the public throughout the Ramadhan month.

Madingkir said the new relocation date, which falls on a Saturday, was chosen as less traffic was anticipated during the weekend.

"The relocation is also to enable City Hall's joint partner, Golden Wave Sdn Bhd (Golden Wave) to enter the site and start construction works on the city bus terminal and its supporting facilities," he added.
