I am confident that collaborative efforts like this will help propel our young talent to drive Malaysia's economic transformation forward," said YB Senator Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid bin Omar. The competition is held in tandem with their final year project. Throughout the competition period between July 2012 and July 2013, participants were guided by their respective universities’ supervisors. The teams were also mentored by their technology sponsors and underwent various engineering and software design training. This allowed participants to work with world-class technology platforms and high-tech industry tools to gain hands-on industry experience. “The Innovate Malaysia Design Competition is increasingly being regarded by universities and students as a platform that offers real value to their final year projects. This program offers participants firsthand knowledge of the cutting-edge technologies and trends across the whole spectrum of E&E. In addition, they worked closely with industry leaders to tap the rich source of industry know-how and bring their projects to the next level of excellence. They also have the opportunity to develop and commercialize their projects further through the grants offered in this competition,” says Puan Shidah Ahmad, Vice President and General Manager, Agilent Technologies. All projects were carried out on selected industrial platform supported by the technology companies. The platforms are the “Test and Measurement” by Agilent, “Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA)” by Altera, “ATOM” by Intel, “Integrated Circuit” by SilTerra, with software support by CEDEC, and “Embedded Acquisition & Control” by National Instruments. TalentCorp provided soft skills training to all the participating teams. These training sessions were held at various universities across the country to help groom future talent in presentation, communication and inter-personal skills. The IMDC 2013 received tremendous response with a total of 354 participants, comprising 183 teams from 20 universities nationwide.
