FIRE DEPARTMENT CALLS ON PUBLIC TO COOPERATE IN FIRE DRILLS

TAWAU, July 4 (Bernama) -- The Fire and Rescue Department today urged the public to fully cooperate when a rescue and fire drill simulation is conducted by the department.

Tawau Fire and Rescue chief Rudy Fredzek said such cooperation was very important for firemen as an early preparation to face the actual fire situation.

He said lack of participation during fire simulation exercises can be detrimental to the public itself, especially in the event of a real disaster, because without preliminary preparation, there might be panic which can lead to other problems.

"In today's simulation exercise in a hotel, we were satisfied with the cooperation given by the staff although there were still residents who did not participate actively," he told reporters after a fire simulation exercise at a hotel, here, today.
