KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 (Bernama) -- The ringgit closed slightly higher against the US dollar today, on mild buying interest for the local note amid uncertain external economic environment, a dealer said.

The ringgit rose against the US dollar to 3.1815/1840 from 3.1850/1880 on Wednesday.

The dealer said gains were capped as most investors remained on the sidelines driven by caution over the impending release of US jobs data on Friday coupled with worries about the political turmoil in Portugal.

Meanwhile, the local currency was traded mostly higher against other major currencies.

The ringgit was higher against the Singapore dollar at 2.5012/5035 from 2.5028/5055 yesterday and strengthened against the yen to 3.1904/1936 from 3.1962/1998.

The local currency rose against the British pound to 4.8505/8553 from 4.8539/8595 yesterday but was lower against the euro at 4.1350/1386 from 4.1258/1304 on Wednesday.
