OTJIWARONGO, 08 MAY (NAMPA) - Three Shoprite Gobabis employees landed in hospital after being injured in a motor-vehicle accident between Okondjatu and Okakarara in the Otjozondjupa Region on Wednesday.
They are Maikopo Reinhold, 36; Otillie Tjatindi, 29; and 20-year-old Penehafo Shangeyovantu, who were on their way to the funeral of a colleague who had died in a motor-vehicle accident at Gobabis last weekend.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Public Relations’ Officer, Sergeant Maureen Mbeha told Nampa on Thursday that the accident occurred some 20 kilometres north of Okondjatu at around 09h30 yesterday.
“They were admitted to the Okakarara State Hospital on Wednesday morning,” she said.
There were five occupants, including the driver, in a white Chevrolet pick-up at the time of the accident.
It is alleged that the 29-year-old driver, Ernest Kavezeri, lost control of the vehicle, which rolled several times on the gravel road.
Kavezeri and another passenger, Simson Ngarizemo, 39, sustained slight injuries.
Mbeha explained that the vehicle and its occupants were travelling from Gobabis to Oshakati in the Oshana Region via the Okondjatu gravel road for the funeral.
A case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened against the driver at the Okakarara police station.
Police investigations into the accident continue.
