LAHAD DATU, July 4 (Bernama) -- Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) advised members of the public to be careful when approached by individuals claiming to be employees of the agency and requested payment for changing the meter in their premises.
SESB senior general manager (Asset Management), Ahmad Fuad Md Kasim said consumers should be careful as the agency had received several complaints from villagers of Kampung Long Danau, Kampung Bugis Batu 1 and Jalan Sandakan Simpang Tawayari on individuals impersonating as SESB workers.
"SESB did not appoint any private company, agency or individuals to inspect or change meters on behalf of SESB. This activity (inspection and changing of meters) is carried out by SESB itself.
"The job of changing old to new meters does not involve payment by the customer," he said in a statement here today.
According to Ahmad Fuad, consumers have the right to ask the worker to present his staff card before any work is implemented to ensure the employee is genuine.
Ahmad Fuad said incidents of individuals masquerading as SESB workers were reported at several locations in Tawau.
