Schoolgirl allegedly raped in Okahandja

OTJIWARONGO, 04 MAY (NAMPA) – A Grade Nine schoolgirl was allegedly raped by a taxi driver in the early hours of Saturday morning in Okahandja.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Maureen Mbeha told Nampa in an interview on Sunday the girl is 15 years old and the suspect 26.
According to preliminary police investigations, the girl was with her mother at Kennedy’s Bar in the Nau-Aib residential area in Okahandja, and the mother left her there.
Shortly afterwards, the victim was seen walking away from the bar with the suspect.
It is alleged that the girl was beaten up by the suspect and forced to walk straight to the suspect’s cousin’s house in Nau-Aib residential area, where the girl was forced to have sexual intercourse with him without her consent.
He was arrested on Saturday afternoon, and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
The suspect’s name is known, but cannot be released before he appears in court.
