LÜDERITZ, 04 MAY (NAMPA) Over 100 corporates and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are showcasing their products and services at the 7th Crayfish Festival underway here.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Lüderitz Town Council, Aunie Gebhard told Nampa on Saturday the number of exhibitors has increased from about 80 exhibitors in 2013.
The festival commenced on Wednesday and ends Monday under the theme Celebrating Crayfish in diversity.
The festival was initiated in 2008 to market Lüderitz and to show what the town has to offer to visitors, investors and its people.
Gebhard said other aims of the festival are to promote trade, increase investment opportunities and bringing the Lüderitz community closer to the marine resources.
Crayfish is our delicacy and we want to make sure that our local people have access to it and not only to export it, she said.
Gerhard expressed happiness about the turnout of over 500 visitors per day to the festival over the past four days to support the exhibitors.
She noted that the exhibition space is very small, and there is an opportunity to increase the exhibition space and increase the number of exhibitors after the completion of the old power station nearby.
During the festival, visitors were taken on boat trips and were entertained with musical and cultural performances every day.
The sponsors of the 7th Crayfish Festival include Namibia Wildlife Resorts, Namibia Airports Company, Air Namibia, Standard Bank Namibia, Mobile Telecommunications Limited, Namibian Port Authority, Social Security Commission, Namibia Power utility (NamPower), Namibia Phosphates (Pty) Ltd, Ministry of Trade and Industry, and the Ministry of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development.
