WINDHOEK, 29 APR (NAMPA) – The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts (PAC) will inspect Government houses in various regions from 05 May to 17 May 2014.
The regions are Otjozondjupa, Oshikoto, Zambezi, Kavango East and West, Omusati and Oshana.
The Chief Liaison Officer of the National Assembly (NA) David Nahongandja made the announcement in a media statement issued here on Tuesday, saying the site visits will be undertaken following outcomes contained in the Auditor-General (AG)’s follow-up report of 2009, 10 and 11 on the utilisation of Government houses in the regions.
“The report uncovered serious misuse of Government houses countrywide which prompted the committee to embark upon a fact-finding mission to ascertain the outcome, and consequently table a comprehensive report in Parliament with recommendations to address the issues,” the statement read.
According to the AG report, the misuse range from illegal leasing of Government houses, usage of houses for business purposes such as bars and tuck shops, as well as illegal ownership claims of State houses.
“In addition, administrative issues on the part of Government such as the maintenance of Government houses, functions of the housing committees, and rules on the occupation of official quarters will also be looked into,” read the statement.
