WINDHOEK, 29 APR (NAMPA) - The second edition of the Skorpion Zinc Under-17 Cup has been postponed from this coming weekend to August.
The youth development football event was scheduled for 02 to 05 May, but has now been moved to 22 to 26 August 2014 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in the capital.
Speaking to Nampa on Tuesday, the Namibian Football Association (NFA)’s International Federation of Football Associations’ (FIFA) licensing official Titus Kunamuene said this was because the set dates in May could not accommodate the stakeholders (NFA and Skorpion Zinc) due to other commitments.
The first edition of the Skorpion Zinc Under-17 Cup saw the successful implementation of the El-Tracking system, by which all necessary national identity documents were submitted to the organising committee for verification meant to eradicate age-cheating.
The Khomas Region won the first edition of the Skorpion Zinc Under-17 Cup, with the Erongo Region ending second, Oshikoto third and Oshana fourth last year.
In March 2013, the NFA and mining giant Skorpion Zinc announced a sponsorship deal worth N.dollars 1.3 million for a period of three years.
