ALGIERS, July 4 (Bernama) -- Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed his country’s satisfaction regarding cooperation with Algeria in the fight against terrorism, Algeria Press Service (APS) reported.
He underlined Moscow’s support to Algerian proposal on the criminalisation of ransom payment for the release of hostages, while denying the existence of Russian strategic objectives in Syria.
In an interview with the Arabic newspaper Al Khabar, Lavrov described the relations between Algeria and Russia at the political and economic levels as excellent, pointing out the convergence of views on several security and international issues.
“We remain convinced that the settlement of issues requires the respect for the international law and the resort to the United Nations and the Security Council,†he said.
The minister also reiterated Russia’s willingness to strengthen the Algerian-Russian cooperation in the fight against terrorism, as part of the bilateral working group of fight against terrorism and organised crime, which comprises the concerned ministers and bodies of the two countries.
