Several cases of suicide reported in Namibia

WINDHOEK, 21 APR (NAMPA) – A 33-year-old man allegedly committed suicide on Thursday by hanging himself with a rope in his bedroom in the Ehambo Da Nehale location of the capital.
Sergeant Slogan Matheus of the Namibian Police Force told the media during the weekend crime briefing that the incident took place at around 17h00.
No suicide note was left, and the deceased’s next of kin have been informed.
In Tsumeb in the Oshikoto Region, a 28-year-old woman allegedly also hung herself from a tree with a jersey on Saturday at about 18h00 at the Golf Club field.
The deceased was identified as Ndinelago Shishiveni.
No suicide note was left, and her next of kin have been informed.
Another case of suicide was reported in Otjiwarongo of the Otjozondjupa Region after a 30-year-old man allegedly shot himself with a shotgun and died on the spot.
The incident took place on Sunday at about 14h00 at Farm Wildehyl.
The deceased was identified as Given Katjioungua.
No suicide note was left, and the deceased’s next of kin have been informed.
Also in the Otjozondjupa Region, a 30-year-old woman allegedly hanged herself with a rope from a tree close to her residence on Saturday.
The incident took place at around 02h00 at Gam in Tsumkwe.
The deceased was identified as Uphee Kitjenambo.
No suicide note was left, and her next of kin have been informed.
In the Ohangwena Region, a 31-year-old man identified as Petrus Kamati also allegedly hanged himself with a cloth from the ceiling of his bedroom on Thursday at an unknown time at the Onaame village.
In the Omaheke Region, Uamunika Kaluumba, 28, allegedly committed suicide after his father denied him a car.
Matheus said Kaluumba allegedly promised his father that he will ‘see’ after being denied a car, and was later discovered hanging from a tree about 500 metres away from his house at Otjinene on Saturday.
In the Kavango Region, a 15-year-old girl drowned when a canoe she was travelling in capsized in the Okavango River on Friday.
It is alleged that the deceased identified as Helvi Kambinda and two other persons went to visit a family friend on the Angolan side of the river, and on their way back the canoe overturned.
The two other persons survived by swimming to the banks of the river. Kambinda’s body could only be retrieved on Saturday.
The incident took place at around 15h30 near the Kaisosi River Lodge.
