Kaaronda still awaits payment from NUNW

Former National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) Secretary General Evalistus Kaaronda will have to wait a little longer for the pay-out of his N$750 000 settlement.

The Villagerunderstands that the 15 July deadline given by the Labour Comissioner’s office for the payment to be done might not be met as no one from that office has communicated with either Kaaronda or his lawyer to date.

“We gave them until Monday to comply with the payment, if they don’t we reserve the right to take the necessary action’’ says Clive Kavendjii, Kaaronda’s lawyer.

Kaaronda who was dismissed without a disciplinary hearing in October last year, turned down an offer of N$ 360 000 from the union.

The NUNW is expected to appeal the labour commission’s order to pay Kaaronda N$750 000 which adds up to the salary of 24 months; the amount of time left on Kaaronda’s contract at the time of his dismissal.

“Maybe they will go to court, but we are not deterred by that’’ said Kavendjii who emphasized the pint that his client was unfairly dismissed.

Efforts to get comment from the current NUNW president, Connie Pandeni proved futile.
