WINDHOEK, 12 JUL (NAMPA) ? China?s Ambassador to Namibia, Xin Shunkang assured President Hifikepunye Pohamba at State House on Thursday that he will work hard to ensure improved relations between Chinese businesspeople and their Namibian workers .
Speaking to the media after a closed-door meeting with the Namibian Head of State, the Chinese ambassador said the aim of the meeting with the president was to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Namibia and China.
?During our discussions, the president clearly pointed out to us about our future co-operation. I expressed good wishes from our President Xi Jinping, and handed over an invitation to President Pohamba to visit China,? he noted.
Xin also told the media that he had assured Pohamba that he will work hard to maintain the good relationship between Chinese and Namibian authorities.
Commenting on the issue of the abuse of workers employed by Chinese nationals, the ambassador said the Chinese Government condemns all such ?illegal? practices, and wants them stopped immediately.
?For all the wrongdoings by the Chinese businesspeople, during our discussion I promised that it is not only Namibians who do not like such illegal things happening, even we the Chinese people do not like it. We do not like the people who do these things because they are destroying the good image of the Chinese people,? he stated.
He said he has been urging Namibian law-enforcement agencies to arrest and punish those who are found guilty of these crimes, in accordance with the laws of Namibia.
The ambassador will next week be accompanied by local journalists to the town of Helao Nafidi in the Ohangwena Region, where he will inspect relations between Chinese employers and their workers there.
