WINDHOEK, 15 APR (NAMPA) - The annual Four-Nations football tournament will kick-off at the coastal town of Swakopmund in the Erongo Region this coming weekend.
The Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture (MYNSSC) will be hosting the Under-17 Four-Nations football tournament in Swakopmund this year.
Nations that will be taking part in the competition this year will be hosts Namibia, South Africa, Ghana and then a Westphalia team which is selected from the cities of Arnsberg, Bielefeld, Osnabrück, Dortmund, Minden, and Münster in Germany.
Roger Kambatuku, Senior Sports Officer at the ministry explained that the involvement of the German team is a result of the existing agreement between the government of Namibia through the MYNSSC and Westphalia Football Federation in Germany.
The agreement has enabled Namibians Under-17 and local coaches to be trained at high-performance training centres in Germany, which will also be extended to South Africa and Ghana said Kambatuku.
The aim of the tournament is to expose Namibias Under-17 football players to top international football.
This year, Westphalia, an Under-17 football team from Germany, will be defending the trophy which they previously won in the last two competitions, held in Walvis Bay in 2010 and 2012.
The tournament will be played at the Swakopmund Sports Complex from 16 to 20 April this year.
