Four die in NDF helicopter crash at Grootfontein airport

GROOTFONTEIN, 11 APR (NAMPA) – Four people died early Friday morning, and several others were seriously injured when a helicopter of the Namibian Air Force crashed shortly after lift-off at the Grootfontein Airport.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Petrus Shivute issued a statement Friday afternoon confirming the accident.
He said: 'The Ministry of Defence is announcing with regret that today (Friday) at 05h05 AM, a helicopter of the Namibian Air Force with a crew of two pilots and eight passengers crashed at the Grootfontein Airport. There were four fatalities and serious injuries to other passengers.'
Shivute said the helicopter was on an official mission from Grootfontein to Windhoek, and all the seriously injured passengers were evacuated to Windhoek for medical attention.
Investigations into the crash continue.
