OSHAKATI, 06 APR (NAMPA) – The Klein Windhoek Valley Rotary Club has donated a wheelchair to the Namibia Post (NamPost) office at Oshakati.
Representatives of the club, Paulina Sickel and Debbie Brune, handed over the wheelchair to the local head of NamPost, Jonson Hailonga, at the town on Friday.
Hailonga told Nampa that the wheelchair is a token of the club’s sympathy towards older people and people with disabilities who often find it difficult to enter the Oshakati NamPost office for service.
“These are the pensioners and people with serious disabilities who have to be carried into the post office when they come to collect their social grants every month,” he explained.
Hailonga said the NamPost machines which facilitate the social grant payments are fixed inside, and as such cannot be moved to serve the pensioners and people with disabilities at their convenience outside the post office.
Sickel noted that the donation of the chair came about after certain local members of the Rotary Club, who are also customers of the Oshakati post office, came across some pensioners being carried by their relatives into the office.
The wheelchair will be used by any pensioner or person with disabilities who find it difficult to access the post office services.
