MTC, the financial backer of the MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Fitness and Boxing Academy today congratulated Namibia’s Immanuel Prince Naindjala for downing Kenya’s Emilio Norfat to clinch the vacant IBF Bantamweight title at the weekend.
MTC Chief Human Capital and Corporate Affairs Officer, Tim Ekandjo, was thrilled by the fact that, the academy barely a year since partnering with MTC – has grown into leaps and bounds – and has once again brought home to the land of the brave an international championship title.
Naidjala won the title in impressive style on Friday, as he knocked out Norfat in round 8 of their bout at the Country Club and Resort.
MTC became a sponsor to the academy in February 2012, with a financial injection to the tune of N$7, 5 million for a three year period.
Before sponsoring, MTC have been following the sport of boxing with keen interest; it has huge support in terms of turnout, the boxers are very professional and importantly, the sports code is successful both locally and internationally.
“It was this kind of perseverance that caught our attention and today they are deserving of MTC’s support for the next three years, but more exciting is that we are happy to note and see that that in less than 12 months since we came on board, the academy has produced one world champion, two African Champions and one international champion and almost all its entire boxers under this staple are ranked favourably among the top 10” Ekandjo is quoted moments after watching the bout at a packed venue.
Ekandjo praised Tobias for his resilience, stating that “Tobias deserve to be acknowledged in the hall of fame of not only Namibia, but Africa, as well as globally. Every soul in the boxing world knows of Namibia’s boxing set up – and thanks largely to Tobias – who in our opinion is a pioneer of boxing promotion in this country. Ekandjo concludes.
