OTJIWARONGO, 05 APR (NAMPA) – A Grade 8 learner of Friedrich Awaseb Senior Secondary School died in the Grootfontein State Hospital on Friday after he was allegedly punched on the forehead by a 16-year-old classmate.
The incident occurred in a classroom at the school.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Maureen Mbeha said Stephanus Haimbili Salvester, 15, was allegedly punched on the forehead by his classmate just before they were supposed to write their English examination.
He fell on his back.
“He was then taken to the Grootfontein State Hospital where he was declared dead upon arrival,” the Otjozondjupa police spokesperson said in an interview with Nampa on Saturday.
She said the 16-year-old suspect was arrested on Friday evening and is expected to appear in the Grootfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Mbeha urged teachers to make use of community policing officers within their jurisdictions to educate learners about the consequences of committing crime so that incidents of this nature can be avoided.
