OUTAPI, 05 APR (NAMPA) – The Omusati Regional Council has purchased Toyota pick-up vehicles for 10 of its 12 constituency offices to be used for official duties.
Chairperson of the Omusati Regional Council, Tataati Shileka handed over the vehicles to the concerned constituencies at the Outapi-based regional council offices on Friday.
Anamulenge, Ruacana, Tsandi, Outapi, Oshikuku, Elim, Ogongo, Okahao, Otamanzi and Etayi are the 10 constituencies that received a Toyota pick-up vehicle each, while vehicles for the Onesi and Okalongo constituencies are yet to be purchased.
Speaking during the handing-over ceremony, Shileka pointed out that his council budgeted for the 10 vehicles in its 2013/14 financial year.
He explained that vehicles for Onesi and Okalongo could not be budgeted for and purchased at the same time due to financial constraints.
“These are vehicles to facilitate development in the constituencies,” Shileka mentioned.
He emphasised that the vehicles are for the constituency offices, and not for the councillors.
“We are not allowed to drive them,” Shileka told his fellow councillors.
The Omusati Regional Council had budgeted about N.dollars 2 million for the 10 vehicles, with each pick-up purchased at the cost of N.dollars 194 342.
