Three drownings in northern Namibia since Wednesday

WINDHOEK, 30 MAR (NAMPA) – A 51-year-old woman drowned in a pond at Omatunda village in the Ohangwena Constituency last Wednesday.
NamPol spokesperson Inspector Stephen Nuuyi said at the weekly crime briefing in the capital on Sunday the woman has been identified as Peneyambeko Haufiku.
The deceased, who was an epilepsy patient, had been attempting to cross the pond at an unknown time when the incident occurred, and might have misjudged the depth of the water.
Her next of kin have been informed.
Meanwhile, the 15-month-old Emilia Ndafelyai Ndakolo also drowned in a pond at Etomba village in the Ondobe Constituency.
Her guardian had apparently left her home alone on Thursday at around 09h00. She had allegedly attempted to follow her guardian when she drowned.

In an unrelated incident Hileni Atuhe Jesaya, aged two, drowned in a pond at Iikelo village in the Epembe Constituency at around 17h00 on Friday.
She had been in the company of children who were busy looking after goats grazing near the water.
Her next of kin have been informed.
