WINDHOEK, 30 JUN (NAMPA) - A 47-year-old man was hit and killed by a passing motor vehicle on Friday evening at about 18h30 on the B1 road between Mariental and Kalkrand in the Hardap Region.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, Inspector Stephen Nuuyi told a media briefing here on Sunday that the deceased person, who cannot be named because Police are yet to inform his next-of-kin, was allegedly walking along the road when the vehicle hit him.
He died on the spot.
The Police in Oshikoto Region reported that three vehicles, including a van belonging to the Namibian Defence Force (NDF), were involved in an accident on the B1 road between Oshivelo and Ondangwa on Saturday evening at about 19h30.
It is reported that the NDF van was transporting fuel to the North from Otjiwarongo when it collided with a Toyota bakkie and a sedan with Angolan registration plates.
As a result of the collision between the three vehicles, the van overturned and caught fire.
The driver of the van, who was alone in the vehicle, was burned to death and he was identified as Major Petrus Joseph Ndjembo, 56.
His next-of-kin have already been informed about the accident and loss of life.
Police investigations are underway to establish the exact cause of the accident.
In another matter, 88-year-old pensioner Tuuliki Shuuveni died on Friday evening at about 19h00 at Onhokolo village in the Ogongo area of the Omusati Region after she allegedly fell into a water canal and drowned.
It is alleged that the elderly woman fell and drowned in the water canal, as she attempted to cross the water canal which is not far from her homestead.
Her next-of-kin have already been informed and police investigations continue.
Police also reported that Keetmanshoop resident Ambrosius de Waal died at about 01h00 on Saturday when he was overrun by a truck on the main road between the residential area of Krolein and Keetmanshoop town.
He died on the spot and his next-of-kin have already been informed.
