OPUWO, 19 MAR (NAMPA) - Construction work on the Opuwo Multi-purpose Youth Centre has started, with foundations being dug for the administration block.
The head of the centre, Sau Kakongo told Nampa on Wednesday the administration block is being constructed at a cost of N.dollars 26,9 million.
Kakongo said it is being prioritised to ensure office space for officials of the Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture (MYNSSC) in the region. It will have 14 offices, a boardroom that can accommodate 25 people, eight store rooms, a photocopy room, and reception.
“Currently most regional officials of our ministry are scattered all over the region due to lack of office space,” she said.
The ministry’s sports officers are renting offices in Opuwo, while the cultural officers are based in Khorixas.
According to Kakongo, the second phase of construction will involve the establishment of a youth hostel.
Upon completion, the multi-purpose youth centre will include a museum, gymnasium, clinic, and tennis and volleyball courts, amongst other things.
The construction site was handed over to the contractor, GFS Investment, at the end of February this year and construction of the administration block is expected to be completed in June 2016.
