ONANDJABA, 18 MAR (NAMPA) – Safety and Security Minister Immanuel Ngatjizeko says his ministry has successfully inaugurated 19 Police stations and accommodation facilities for police officers since 2012.
Ngatjizeko said this at the official inauguration of a fully-fledged Namibian Police Force (NamPol) station and accommodation facilities at Onandjaba settlement in the Omusati Region on Monday.
According to Ngatjizeko, several NamPol station and accommodation facilities will also be built and inaugurated across the country this year.
The inauguration of these Nampol stations and accommodation facilities, Ngatjizeko said, is a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to bring its services closer to the people.
He pointed out that the Police Force Department is doing its best to improve on service delivery and to create a better working environment for the men and women in police uniform.
This, according to the Minister, includes the building and renovation of police facilities.
“This is done despite the scarce financial resources at our disposal,” Ngatjizeko noted.
At the same time, the minister called on the regional and constituency leaders who requested for the construction of NamPol stations and accommodation facilities in their areas, to exercise patience.
“Once resources permit, those police stations will be built or renovated,” the Safety and Security Minister assured.
The Onandjaba NamPol station was built at a cost of more than N.dollars 37.9 million, and it has a charge office with a visitors’ room, processing area, radio room, toilets and nine offices.
It also includes barracks for several NamPol members.
Speaking at the same occasion, NamPol Inspector-General Sebastian Ndeitunga announced that the Ombadja Traditional Authority had donated the land where the Onandjaba Police station is now located.
“The Onandjaba Police station (formally known as Okalongo Police station), has been operating from a caravan since 1990 until today,” said Ndeitunga.
Warrant officer Ananias Nahango is the Station Commander at the Onandjaba Police station.
