WINDHOEK, 14 MAR (NAMPA) – The police in the Erongo Region on Thursday arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with the murder of Bernadine Baumgarten.
Baumgarten’s body was discovered dumped in the dunes near the Narraville residential area, some 300 metres from the Swakopmund-Walvis Bay road, on Thursday morning.
The suspect, believed to have been the victim's boyfriend, was arrested in the Kuisebmond residential area on Thursday night at around 22h00.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Detective Inspector Erastus Iikuyu told Nampa on Friday the suspect was found at a public transport terminal in Kuisebmond.
He added that the suspect is in custody and is being interrogated on the incident.
Baumgarten's lifeless body was discovered by a passerby at around 06h00, and it is suspected that she was killed on Wednesday night.
According to the police, her body was wrapped in a blanket and put in a municipal refuse bin which was used to move the body into the dunes.
The refuse bin was discovered with an object inside it in Kuisebmond, apparently metres away from the house where the victim lived.
Her cause of death has not yet been determined. Iikuyu indicated on Thursday that it is not clear how the victim was killed as no marks were visible on her body.
