WINDHOEK, 13 MAR (NAMPA) – The lifeless body of a woman has been found dumped in the dunes near the Swakopmund-Walvis Bay road.
The police in the Erongo Region told Nampa on Thursday the body was found wrapped in a blanket some 300 metres away from the road by a passerby on Thursday morning.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Detective Inspector Erastus Iikwiyu confirmed the incident saying the woman, who was in her late twenties, has been identified as Bernadine Baumgarten.
Iikwiyu said it is suspected that the victim was killed between 22h00 on Wednesday and 06h00 on Thursday morning.
He said the police suspect that the body was placed in a municipal household refuse bin which the suspect then used to take the body to the dunes.
The refuse bin was discovered with an object inside it in the Kuisebmond residential area in Walvis Bay, metres away from the house where the victim lived.
Iikwiyu did not specify what was found in the bin.
“The suspect is known to the police and is suspected to have been the deceased’s boyfriend, but no arrest has been made. They were not living together, they just lived in the same area,” he said.
It is not clear how the victim was killed as no marks were visible on her body.
A post-mortem will be conducted on the body to determine how she died.
Baumgarten's next of kin have been informed of her death.
