KEETMANSHOOP, 13 MAR (NAMPA) - President Hifikepunye Pohamba on Thursday commended the leadership of Old Mutual Namibia for heeding Government’s call for financial institutions and other private businesses to invest in the country’s economy.
The President made the remarks at the inauguration of the Mutual Keetmanshoop Mall at Keetmanshoop in the //Karas Region. Old Mutual Namibia has invested N. dollars 92 million in the construction and development of the shopping mall.
“As our country moves towards the attainment of the goals of the Government’s policy of Vision 2030, it is vital for the private sector to invest their monies in areas that are critical to national development. At the same time, I urge the private sector to start implementing their corporate social responsibility programmes in order to assist communities, especially the needy members of our society,” Pohamba said.
He added that it is particularly important that private sector businesses consider designing programmes to assist members of the communities they operate in.
Pohamba noted that it is in this context that he personally commends the leadership and management of Old Mutual Namibia for its initiative to construct a modern shopping facility for the residents of the southern town of Keetmanshoop and the surrounding farming areas.

“I have taken note that other economic programmes and initiatives supported through Old Mutual Namibia corporate social investments, including the small and medium enterprise development, skills development and financial education, are also vital for the growth of our national economy,” he stated.
Pohamba further applauded Old Mutual Namibia for investing and bringing a modern shopping facility to the residents of Keetmanshoop in particular and the //Karas Region in general.
He then urged the tenants of the mall and the general public to take good care of the facility.
He finally told the gathering that his Swapo-Party led Government will continue to promote a conducive environment for the local private sector to flourish.
