SWAKOPMUND, 23 JUN (NAMPA) - Swapo-Party Youth League (SPYL) Secretary Elijah Ngurare issued another apology on Sunday after he was directed to do so by the Swapo-Party?s Central Committee (CC) during a meeting held here earlier in the day.
About 500 party members convened at the coastal town to attend the party?s extra-ordinary congress, which was officially opened on Friday evening and was aimed at discussing and adopting amendments to the party?s constitution.
The apology follows indications by the party?s leadership that they were not happy with an apology issued by the SPY at a media conference in Windhoek on Thursday for the behaviour of some youth league members after an order for them to do so by the Swapo-Party Central Committee.
The committee demanded the apology as it was not happy with some recent public statements made by some of the youth league?s members, which included personal attacks and other forms of ?unbecoming behaviour? by some SPYL members.
?If it is found that we have committed errors, we are sorry, and regret any inconvenience that might have been caused,? Secretary of the SPYL, Elijah Ngurare said on Thursday.
Addressing the media on Sunday, Ngurare stated that during the past weeks, several regrettable publications were issued by some members of the youth league?s National Executive Committee, in which it was amongst others said that State House was being turned into a ?club house? and references were made to ?the political goats of Oshana Region?.
?These statements attacked, insulted and degraded the president and vice president of the Swapo-Party, as well as the Governor of the Oshana Region. These utterances are not in line with the code of conduct of the Swapo-Party and that of the SPYL and are disrespectful to our leaders and institutions,? an apologetic Ngurare stated.
The youth league leader then extended an ?unreserved apology? to the entire Swapo-Party leadership on behalf of the SPYL leadership and membership.
?As a vanguard party wing, we shall commit ourselves to observing the party?s constitution, regulations and code of conduct in all our undertakings to ensure that we remain a transmitting belt of the party?s policies and ideologies,? he indicated.
He also added that the SPYL will not tolerate unbecoming behaviour, especially behaviour which is disrespectful towards the leaders of the party.
He further strongly cautioned all members and leaders belonging to the youth league who are active on social media platforms such as Facebook to refrain from uploading posts which are found to be disrespectful to the party leadership.
Ngurare firmly stated that if such an individual is found guilty, action will be taken against them.
