WINDHOEK, 09 MAR (NAMPA) – Four men accused of an armed robbery at the Mamma Fresh grocery shop in the Nubuamis residential area in the capital in December last year, are expected to appear in court here on Monday.
Leonard Mwashekele, Joseph Fillipus and two others stand accused of attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances and possession of illegal firearms.
The four allegedly robbed the shop off a laptop, an undisclosed amount of money and airtime recharge vouchers on 27 December 2013.
The suspects locked two of the shop’s employees in a walk-in fridge during the failed robbery attempt, and opened fire at Namibian Police Force (NamPol) and City Police officers after being warned to surrender themselves.
Mwashekele and Fillipus appeared in the Wanaheda Magistrate’s Court in December. It could, however, not be established whether the two others made their first court appearances yet. They were hospitalised under police guard at the Katutura Intermediate Hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds from police firearms.
All four suspects were remanded in custody, and bail was not granted due to the seriousness of the charges.
