ONYAANYA, 09 MAR (NAMPA) Defence Minister Nahas Angula has called on the youth in the country to ensure they are academically fit to secure themselves a bright future.
Angula said this at the Uukule Senior Secondary School (SSS) in the Onyaanya Constituency of the Oshikoto Region on Friday.
Speaking during the Onyaanya Circuits education performance award-giving ceremony, he urged pupils to work hard at school to achieve their goals.
Your future is assured when you are academically fit. Be always winners and not losers, Angula stated.
The former premier also urged teachers to instil a culture of reading in their learners by encouraging them to read widely, including newspapers.
He suggested that teachers let learners read stories in newspapers and then allow them to summarise it in their own words.
This, Angula said, will help learners improve their language proficiency.
He further encouraged principals to maintain teamwork among all members of their school communities, saying it is the key to success.
Inspectors of education should also be committed and strive to make sure that each school in their circuits is visited at least once per term, Angula demanded.
He then congratulated the Uukule SSS and Emanya Junior Secondary School (JSS) for achieving a 100 per cent pass rate in last years Junior Secondary Certificate (JSC) examinations in the Onyaanya Circuit.
The AgriBank of Namibia, NamPower and Namibia Public Workers Union (Napwu) provided material and financial support towards the award-giving event.
The Oshikoto regional councillor for the Onyaanya Constituency, Henock Kankosi sponsored an award to the circuits cleanest school, the Engoyi Combined School.
