SWAKOPMUND, 19 JUN (NAMPA) ? The re-elected Chairperson of the Erongo Regional Council has urged members of the council to join forces to ensure that nobody in the region succumbs to hunger as a result of drought.
Hafeni Ndemula said this during the election and inauguration of the members of the Erongo Regional Council?s Management Committee here on Wednesday.
He indicated that drought is a reality and the councillors? efforts are needed in order to make sure that the neediest people in the region are well taken care of.
?Our people are currently facing hardship, which is the hardship of putting food on their tables,? he stated.
Ndemula went on to say that 2013 has so far been a challenging year as a result of the drought Namibia is experiencing. For the Erongo Region this has especially been the case in the Daures, Otjimbingwe and Utuseb Constituencies.
He also mentioned that apart from the drought situation, the Erongo Regional Council is also faced with another challenge ? that of financial constraints.
?We budgeted N.dollars 34 million, but only N.dollars 28 million was approved for the 2013/2014 financial year. We thus appeal to our Government to consider assisting us in reducing the deficit of N.dollars 6 million,? he said.
He further stated that the Erongo Regional Council is committed to sustaining regional development and serving the public through prompt and accurate services.
Ndemula additionally mentioned that change, development and transformation do not come easy, and he therefore urged the members of the council to continue fighting for development.
