OPUWO, 18 JUN (NAMPA) - A 36-year-old man was attacked with a knife here on Tuesday last week by an ex-lover of his girlfriend.
The victim, Hosea Nghufele Pandu, is now recuperating in the Opuwo State Hospital following the attack at his girlfriend?s home in the Orutjandja informal location at about 02h45.
Pandu was stabbed once in the stomach, three times on the buttocks and on his left hand by the suspect, Shikondjeleni Kamati.
According to the police here, Kamati was arrested on the same day of the incident, and appeared in the Opuwo Magistrate?s Court on 13 June this year on a charge of attempted murder.
His case was then postponed to 16 August this year to allow for further investigations.
Kamati was remanded in police custody.
Pandu told Nampa from his hospital bed on Tuesday he and his girlfriend were asleep when Kamati stormed into the room and attacked him, adding that he was lucky to be alive because he escaped from the room and ran away.
?If he had overpowered me, he could have killed me on the spot,? noted Pandu.
He added that he does not know Kamati, and had only been with the girlfriend for two days.
?She told me she broke up with Kamati a long time ago,? said Pandu, a cattle speculator who buys cattle from Okangwati and Opuwo and sells them in Oshakati - a business that he has been running since 2007.
?My girlfriend was not attacked at all, and visits me in hospital every day,? said Pandu.
He was due to be discharged from hospital on Tuesday this week.
