Capablanca Chess Club dominates league

WINDHOEK, 18 JUN (NAMPA) ? The Capablanca Chess Club (CC) remains proudly in top spot of the Namsports Premier Chess League (NPCL) with 32 points after beating Indomitable Knights by three points to one here on Friday.
Windhoek-based Capablanca has an undefeated record of 16 wins after 16 rounds thus far.
The Gunter Husselman CC are currently in second place on the log with 25 points, with its latest victory over the Polytechnic CC on Friday.
The Indomitable Knights CC are in third place with 23 points.
The only women?s team in the league, Queens United, are sixth on the log, after wrestling down Zandell Chess Academy this past weekend.
Zandell Chess Academy (ZCA) is at the bottom of the log with six points.
The league is now in Round 16 after being resurrected on 01 February this year.
Namibia Chess Federation (NCF) president Otto Nakapunda told Nampa on enquiry Tuesday the league was last played in 1995 due to challenges beyond the NCF?s control.
The tournament comprises nine teams which play on a double round robin (home and away) system at the International Management for Leadership Training (IMLT) hall in the capital.
The league is scheduled for 18 rounds and expected to be completed on 05 July.
The next round will take place on Friday.
