WINDHOEK, 03 FEB (NAMPA) – The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) says it has successfully completed the third general voters registration exercise.
Acting Director of Elections Theo Mujoro made this announcement in a media statement availed to Nampa on Monday.
He said the election body is now busy with other crucial work activities which include receiving voter registration data from all 121 constituencies and from Namibia´s foreign missions all over the world, and then uploading this voter data on the ECN´s central servers at Head Office in Windhoek.
These activities will run until 09 March 2014.
The ECN is also running the Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) to identify and remove any duplicates from the provisional voters register in order to executing data integrity and provide quality checks.
“The ECN will call a major media conference in the course of next week in order to provide a detailed report to the Namibian nation on the outcome of the 2014 General Registration of Voters process (GRV),” Mujoro announced.
The media conference, he said, will also provide clarity on how errors that may have occurred during the GRV process, including mistakes on voters cards, will be rectified.
Furthermore, the ECN will also be carrying out a number of important activities relating to the preparation of the provisional voters register which will be displayed for possible objections from 03 April to 15 April 2014.
“Lastly, the ECN hereby wishes to reiterate that all eligible Namibians who could not be registered as voters during the just concluded GRV period, will have an opportunity to do so during the Supplementary Registration process,” he said.
The supplementary registration process will be held before the Presidential and National Assembly elections that are scheduled to take place towards the end of this year.
